EQUIPMENT TIP —THE NEW ZEALAND SAFETY SAUSAGE

from the September, 1999 issue of Undercurrent   Subscribe Now

If you’ve received a free New Zealand Safety Sausage from Undercurrent, treat it like any other piece of equipment and test it before you take it on your next trip. Occasionally, a diver has reported that the sealed end has leaked. In a pinch, one can tie a knot in the end and the sausage will hold air. I’ve tried that several times and it works just fine.

But let us caution that if you’re off on a live-aboard doing heavy-duty current diving, consider a more sturdy model and let the NZ safety sausage serve as backup.
