Comments	We traveled to Yap to take the Manta Ray Awareness course with author Bill Acker. Spending time with this Texan was an absolute delight in his sharing of knowledge about the fascinating namesake creatures that were most cooperative during our February trip. We were treated to many sightings of mantas which definitely made the trip from the opposite side of the planet worthwhile. Additions to my life list include mantis shrimp, mandarinfish, a school of 30 bumphead parrotfish, 13 baby sharks, and a hawksbill turtle. Favorites which I enjoyed seeing again included many angelfish, anemonefish, boxfish, butterflyfish, chromis, damsels, dascyllus, eagle rays. gregories, nudibranchs, octopus, pipefish, puffers, wrasse, pipefish, surgeonfish, tang, tobies, trumpetfish and unicornfish, The dive operators did an excellent job of taking us to see absolutely everything on our list and were most gracious about it. As for the hotel accommodations, we had treated ourselves to the charmingly elegant honeymoon suite with the stone waterfall shower and hand-carved furniture. It also featured a balcony with a view of the water. The only thing that interfered with the illusion we had crossed over into a completely different world from the Washington DC beltway was the noise from the traffic on the adjacent highway. Next time we might prefer to overlook the pool with its unique manta mosaic. The completely authentic ambience of the restaurant on the antique Japanese junk boat meant that the flying insects, heat and humidity accompanied every meal. The top deck's bar was nice when there was a breeze, but for a true respite, we had exactly one air-conditioned restaurant that we could walk to down the street. When we tried to dine at another resort, there was only a Manta Ray Bay employee available to take us over there - we were literally stranded at the end of the meal and were eventually driven back by the chef of the other restaurant after we unintentionally closed the place down. We took the Village Cultural tour and were also there for Yap Day, so we got a thorough exposure to the colorful local culture, music and dance. The finely handcrafted bag that I purchased at the market has brought me many compliments back here. The custom video that we had done has been a wonderful educational tool for me to use.

Enforced diving restrictions	Depth limits were guided towards the seeing of the target critters - some days we were taking the Manta Ray awareness course, so we headed directly to their cleaning stations. Other days we were looking for reef fish, sharks, so we successfully stayed where we could find them.
