Comments This is our 27th visit to Palau. We have experienced many changes over the years. I can remember diving with 50-60 shark at one time on the Blue Corner. That is no more. The recent typhoons have damaged the reefs. Too many divers from the live aboard boats have frightened the infamous Helfrick Dartfish. There were few and not available for photo opts. For those who haven't had the experience, it is still amazing. We watched 12 extremely large bump headed parrot fish working their way across the top of Blue Corner. There were large schools of barracuda, trevally, coral breams. There were fewer grouper at Ulong Channel, but they are large, daring and active. The three tridacna clams remain at the end of that dive. We have always gone with Splash. They are Palauan and know their ocean. The boat ride is never boring. We have made friends with people from all over the world. We've shared many experiences. I don't know what is happening with PPR. They are adding expensive rooms on the water, but they don't have the value for what they are charging. They have removed trees by the spa to add even more. Yet, the main rooms haven't changed in the 27 years we've gone. They are very tired, dimly lit and small. There are few Americans and Japanese. This was the mainstay until a few years ago. Now there are many Chinese tour groups. We saw up to 300 snorkelers at one time at the Rock Island. There is really no other option other than a live aboard. I would miss the visiting with the people and enjoying the delicious meals at Dragon Tei. I would miss the freedom and solitary experience with Splash. On a happier note, our last dive was interesting. I usually can pick where we go for the grand finale. My camera quit working and the 4 Italians that were with us wanted German Channel. I haven't seen a manta there in 3 years so wasn't enthused, but agreed. We went down to a cleaning station and Steven pointed into the distance. We swam hard to the shadow and encountered 3 mantas. The visibility changed abruptly as if by a magic hand. The youngest came to my face and looked with interest and curiosity. They stayed for a long time. It was a lovely experience and great way to end the trip.

UW Photo Comments There is a water hold on the boat. There are no facilities at the shop. The macro photography is a challenge at best, but I've managed to find interesting subjects.
