Comments This was my second trip to Truk. The wrecks are of course a mind-blowing underwater museum and are what brought me back, but the contrast between the Odyssey and the first boat two years ago couldn't be any greater...I won't name names but let's just say it rhymes with "Wore Thin" :)

We chartered the whole boat for an all-tech trip with experienced divers, and for that I doubt there's a better liveaboard anywhere. It was the smoothest dive operation I've ever seen, especially considering the gas-mixing requirements (everyone was on twins plus pony bottles), and the facilities were among the best I've seen on a liveaboard. The dive deck layout is highly efficient, including an in-water elevator for exits that was just ridiculously convenient...with a crew member always standing by to remove your fins after the dive, as they had helped with putting them on beforehand. Needless to say, we got spoiled quickly! This was representative of an extremely happy, congenial, and attentive team, led by Capt. and talented underwater photographer/videographer Mike Gerken. The local guides are the most experienced in Truk, including Ken, who is famous for singing during tours of the engine rooms! All of them were excellent. Cabins were spacious and comfortable, and the food was very good considering the remote location and the need to import most items. I did not expect steak & lobster!

I'd go back in a heartbeat.
