Comments All our experiences with both Palau Pacific Resort and Neco Marine were 100% positive. We booked the trip through travel agent Jan Stogner of www.pacificdivevacations.com. We were very pleased with her knowledge, service and great advice.

Neco Marine was the best possible choice and we could not have been happier. Neco is a fairly major force on Palau. They also own the Splash dive center at Palau Pacific Resort, the shuttle bus company, and a part interest in PPR. They are also the country’s Yamaha marine dealer, so their Yamaha boats and motors are superbly maintained and nearly brand new. The Neco dive shop is first rate and their nearby Drop Off bar and restaurant was great.

Our boat captain (Ricky), dive masters (Edwin and Fabio), and our assistant dive master, a sweet young Japanese lady whose name, I think, is spelled Ko-ro-ru were all terrific. Each or our five dive days (two dives a day) seemed more amazing than the amazing day before. Because I seemed to always run out of air first, Fabio switched me from an 80 cu. ft. to a 100 cu. ft. tank. My partner and I used Nitrox. There were only 3 or 4 other divers on our boat for each trip: a US Navy rescue helicopter pilot and his wife and a prospective dive instructor from America one day, an Italian baker and his lady friend another day. If we asked, Neco picked us or dropped us off at the PPR dock. Jellyfish lake was astonishing! Neco also arranged for us and our new Navy friends to take a full day tour of the battlefields of Peleliu. That was a powerful experience.

The last day we were on Palau, we rented a four wheeler from Fish & Fins and went riding with a guide in the backcountry and up old dirt trails in the hills. Lot’s of fun.

PPR was doubtless the best place to stay. I think the only other Americans staying there were Delta crew. The Palau route is a real plum for crew members because they get a 3 or 4 day layover at PPR. Our only suggestion to improve our whole experience would be for Delta to land and take off during daylight hours. Leaving for the airport at 1 am is not that much fun. However a Delta pilot told us that the real reason they even go to Palau is to haul huge loads of fresh tuna to Tokyo’s fish market.
