Comments We went to Yap because my wife is in love with Mantas. And we weren't disappointed! You can see as many Mantas as you want. There is a cleaning station that they hang out at. You position yourself around the cleaning station, stay down and wait. They come.
Special shout-out to Bill Acker. Bill came to Yap decades ago in the Peace Core. He stayed, married a Yapese lady, and has done immense good to help the people of Yap.
The resort is very well run, as is the diving. Staff are great. Food is very good.
But your thinking is too narrow if you consider Yap only a Manta Ray destination. There are also lots of other things to see, including nudis, bumphead parrot fish, and lots of sharks. There are cuts and channels.
The boat ride to some of the dive sites can be arduous: slogging through heavy seas and wind. But the effort is worth it.
The traditional dress consists of elaborate flower weaving leis and palm frond skirts. Sadly, westerners are slowly replacing the traditional dress with Levi's and t-shirts.
