Stupid or What?
from the September, 2019 issue of Undercurrent
A useful tip we offered in our mid-August email was to fit your integrated computer's transmitter to the end of a short high-pressure hose so that no boat crew would be tempted use it as a a handle.
Florida reader Gregg Backemeyer wrote to say he thought the idea was stupid. So we checked with Steve Brown, owner of Mike's Dive Store, probably the busiest dive store in Europe, who told us 80 per cent of transmitters they sell are now supplied in this way and suggested that a transmitter failing after being abused as a tank handle precipitated the previous recall of Suunto transmitters. Suunto now supply a choice of flow restrictors for fitting the transmitter either way and similar flow restrictors are available from your local dive store suitable for use with most other computer transmitters and hoses.
