Durapro Systems has recalled nearly
2000 buoyancy compensators sold between
January, 1996, and May of 1998 after receiving
three reports of low-pressure power inflator
hoses blowing off while underwater.
Linda Foster, one of the owners of Durapro, told us, "as far as we know there have
not been any injuries in any of the three cases."
The BCDs recalled are the Cirrus, Stratus, Aruba, Slimline, and Resort. The hoses
in question were purchased from Goodyear in January of 1996 and have "PLIOVIC
MULTI PURPOSE" printed on the hoses.
The loss of a power inflator hose is not usually a problem if the diver has been trained
to orally inflate the BC. However, neither the degree of training nor the level of experience
of the purchasers is known, and an inexperienced or untrained diver may panic.
BCDs equipped with this hose have been sold both through dive stores and direct
mail. Divers with a recalled Durapro BC should return it to the dive shop where
purchased. If bought from a catalog, it must be returned to Durapro for a replacement.
