Comments This was a REEF fish-ID expedition. There were about a dozen divers, all with our checklists. The flights from DC to Christiansted and back were just fine. The Company House Hotel was beautiful, but it had stairs everywhere. The outfitter, St Croix Ultimate Bluewater Adventures, came to the hotel, tagged all of our gear with our names, then hauled it to their dive shop, and loaded it onto the boat each morning. Excellent service!
We were on our own for food. There are lovely little restaurants in downtown Christiansted, but it always takes a day or 3 to find them. Christiansted is terrible for pedestrians, there are almost no sidewalks outside downtown.
The boat was spacious and comfortable, with easy giant-stride entry and a good ladder. We dived 11 different dive sites, two of them twice. There were armies of blackbar soldier fish everywhere. I saw two octopus.
The last 2 days we dived the Fredericksted Pier, which was VERY interesting. I saw my first gold-spotted snake eel. There was a seahorse, likely more of them, a scorpion fish, eyed flounder, a southern stingray, greater soap fish, and a few cuttlefish.
Overall, I think the reef was moderately healthy. I expected huge schools of grunts and snappers and did not see them. I suspect the locals catch and eat them.
We needed to Covid test before flying home to the mainland US, because Christiansted Airport is an “open port” (I did not look up what that means).
I do recommend the destination, the outfitter, and the hotel.

UW Photo Comments We saw a lot of tiny fish and eels and shrimps. If you are a small-critter photographer, the opportunities are good.
