Comments Dove six times, twice under the Frederiksted Pier, (one a night dive), and two boat dives. The first boat dive was a wreck and reef dive at Frederiksted and the other, one wall dive and the other a reef dive off Christiansted. All of the dives included Rays, Morays, and Turtles. Several had larger fish, Sharks and Tarpons. The group diving the Pier sighted seahorse.

The visibility was excellent and water temperature very comfortable. it was off season and very hot, with few tourists. Several dive shops would not accommodate one diver and stated I would need to find another diver before they would take me on.

Fortunately I ran into Adventures in Diving STX on King Street, an operation run by Mitch Nestor and Andrea Hemphill. Mitch became my diving partner for most of the dives and he and I drove over to the other side of the Island to dive in Christiansted. Mitch took care of my equipment and provided anything I needed to dive. Since this was my first time in St Croix and Mitch booked boat rides so I would enjoy the diving, I was very pleased with the service and just relaxed. I was provided flashlights for the night dive and was able to take great pictures.
The Pier dive was very interesting, but needed a guide to get into the water and onto the beach. Mitch ensured one of his staff assisted with those challenges and took care of getting the equipment from and to his shop.

St Croix is an island which sits alone - a two hour boat ride south of St. Thomas. A great deal of large fish are in the waters surrounding the island. There are many dive sites in the west and north of the island and many sites for snorkeling off the beaches.

We were fortunate to book the week before the arrival of Hurricane Irma. Once we got used to the slow pace of the Islanders we were able to relax and enjoy the diving. The free ranging roosters became our wake up clocks, it was a vey relaxing and varied dive vacation.
