Comments The Tropic Vista Motel is not the top choice of many for a vacation; however, it is ideally set up for someone who wants to complete 4-5 dives a day and just wants a room to sleep. The rooms are typical motel rooms (double beds, cable TV, small refrigerator, small bathroom). The dock and dive boat are at the back of the motel and there is a small restaurant next to the motel. This setup makes it very efficient to eat, dive and sleep. The motel has a decent swimming pool and there are several restaurants nearby for dinners. Next to the dock is a sizeable freshwater rinse bucket and a large locker to store and dry your equipment overnight. The captain of the dive boat, Don, and his crew know all of the dive spots and take exceptional care of their divers. The amenities that the motel lacks, the dive boat makes up for in terms of safety (on board oxygen, new radios, extensive first aid kit, large head, etc.). The staff does role calls on each dive site. Don and his first mate, Jeff, give excellent briefings of the dive sites and go the extra mile with photographers to point them in the best direction for photos. They are flexible on taking the boat out with a small party and can manage larger crowds. On our trip the boat had as few as 6 divers and as many as 20 divers. The afternoon dives tended to be emptier. This is first class dive operation that has decent place to spend the night and access to some great entertainment in the evening.
