Comments The blue hole is a 81 foot deep artesian well located in Santa Rosa, NM, which is about 114 miles east of Albuquerque. The water is a constant 61 degrees year round. This is mainly used as a training area for dive classes, but it is a great place to do some diving if you haven't been in the water for awhile. You will need a 7mm wet suit year round, gloves and hood are a good idea but I have dived without. There are many fish and crawfish, so bring a flashlight to look in the crevices. There are steps to get in and out of the water and there is also a platform to practice giant stride entries. There are two platforms down about 20 feet. There is a dive shop on location but it is only staffed by one person. You can rent air tanks and other equipment. The tanks were OK but the other equipment like the wet suits, were in terrible condition! I would recommend bring your own gear or rent it from a reputable dive shop somewhere else. You will need to call the dive shop before your dive day to make arrangements to get tanks. They do not seem to have set hours and are opened as needed. There are showers and restrooms at this location, but they are filthy and don't work well. There was a used condom on the changing room floor! The Blue Hole is located in a city park, but the city does not seem to want to put much money into its maintenance. It is very busy on the weekends with dive training classes, we went on a Wednesday afternoon and we were the only ones diving. You will need to use a high altitude dive table due to the elevation at this location, which is about 4,600 feet above sea level.
