Comments Surprisingly this was the first time we had dived in the USA. We chose the destination so we had minimum travel time and maximum relaxation. The dive operator was very efficient and the boat close to their shop, most trips were short (under 30 minutes). The deepest dive was the wreck of the Eagle in over 100 feet at the deepest point, all the rest 40 feet or less. Visibility was good for the 4 days we dived although there was fairly brisk on-shore breeze blowing on-shore on virtually every dive and because the dive sites are surrounded by sand some visibility suffered. I was pleasantly surprised by the fish life, not too many small critters but plenty of of grunt -like fish hanging out and nurse sharks. The locals keep the lion fish in check so didn't see too many of them. I highly recommend the night dive (near the lighthouse, saw tons of marine life including a humongous turtle. on one of the first dive one of the dive guides kept handling small marine animals and we complained to the boat captain about him. Where we stayed was a motel with a nice pool, the first room we had was close to the highway and consequently noisy, the quietest rooms overlook the ocean. Great seafood all over the key. Many of the fellow guests were fishermen.
