Comments I have dived with Jupiter Dive Center on several previous occasions and now have about 60 dives with them. I have never been lucky enough to dive with them during Lemon Shark aggregation but hit the jackpot on this trip.
JDC is a very efficient and well run operation. They open at 8 AM, boats leave at 9 AM for 2 tank dives and for 3 tank dives on Friday and Sunday. Though I did not do a 3 tanker this trip, I highly recommend them as there are less, and generally, more experienced, divers. They rent AL80 as well as steel 100 and 120 cylinders. Due to the deeper depths, I would advise being nitrox certified. Bottoms times with nitrox are limited to 45 minutes, I believe air bottom times are limited to 25 minutes.
I did 3 two tank dives the first week of February. The first dive of each day was on Area 29. Each day we had Lemon Sharks with us for the entire dive. It was difficult to estimate the number of sharks as they often circled and came around for numerous passes. By the end of the dive you would come to recognize some of the sharks by markings, scars, or a hook in the mouth. In addition to the Lemon Sharks, we were joined by Nurse Sharks, Goliath Grouper, and turtles. The dives on Area 29 were on the deeper side, about 90 feet. Water temperature was around 73 and visibility 50-60 feet. These were 3 of my most memorable dives. The opportunity to dive with the Lemon Sharks in their natural state, without feeding, was absolutely priceless.
Second dives were at Tunnels, Capt Kurle's, and Tunnels again. These dives were marked by turtles, Goliath Grouper, Reef Sharks, Southern Rays, Morays, and the usual reef fish suspects. All very good dives. Depths were around 75 feet with slightly warmer water and about the same vis.
I will continue to dive with JDC on my visits to SE Florida, a very well run and reliable operation.
