Comments We dove on the City of Washington wreck and Lobster Ledges, both in Elbow Reef, Pennekamp State Park. The wreck (spread out over 100 yards) and the reef were both uninteresting in themselves, with very little live hard or soft coral, but there were many schools of colorful fish, and many individual beautiful fish, especially on the wreck. I had been diving only a couple of times in the previous 25 years, and I enjoyed both dives. The depth was 25 feet, and there were 3-foot swells (not ideal, but OK), and some current at the Ledges. Another diver told me that there's a lot more non-fish life on Molasses Reef. It's A Dive has a great boat, with plenty of shade. They provide soft drinks, bottled water, towels, and defogger, and there's a liquid-only head on board. The crew of three was friendly and helpful, and assisted with handling gear when needed. Buddy diving was not required. Rental equipment was first-class (the usual BC-integrated system with octopus rig, and console with a depth guage, pressure guage, and compass). There were perhaps 15 other divers, but it didn't feel crowded. It's A Dive's shop is on the Marriott's property, and the boat is docked there. You can get a special rate at the Marriott by going through the shop, www.itsadive.com. The Marriott is better than the Ramada Inn and the Holiday Inn, which are a three miles down the road, and it has a restaurant, which the Ramada Inn lacks. I suggest that you call the shop for a marine forecast before going; the first time I tried to dive at Pennekamp, in May, none of the boats left the dock for 3 days because of 25+ knot winds and 4-6 foot swells.
