Comments Since this was the slow season after Labor Day, it was hard to find a dive boat that would take us to the A. Busch Sr. on a Tuesday. Three shops were contacted, but only Innerspace( MM 29.5) was willing to make the trip for only two divers. Capt. Robert runs an excellent, small( 6 divers max.) dive boat and provides all the individual attention with a smile that you expect from a small operation. Dive briefings were very detailed and included all the necessary safety precautions. We were warned before hand to beware of fishing tackle and line both on the mooring line and the wreck itself and this was to prove very valuable information. To any future divers of the A. Busch Sr., make sure to wear gloves and beware of fishing hooks on the mooring line. Also the Busch is covered with fishing line and even in the wheel house that is open for penetration you would find fishing line, hooks and even part of a fishing pole. Carrying a knife or scissors is an absolute necessity. We had no current, but having dove the Busch many years ago, I can attest to the fact that currents are a possibility. Visibility was poor( 50 feet), but again that is seasonal and weather related.
The second dive was on Looe Key( shallow) and suffered from clouds and poor visibility. From past experience this is a must dive and usually has much better visibility. Sting Rays, Barracuda and a variety of Aquarium fish were seen on Looe Key.
We stayed at the Looe Key Resort where the rooms are very basic, but functional for scuba divers. Nothing fancy( reminded me of the motels of the 1970's), but served the purpose and the price was right. Tiki bar with food on premise, next door is a gas station with convenience store and across the street is Boondoggles( spelling might be wrong) with nice bar and restaurant.
