Comments Easy dive, but challenging due to conditions. This was an active mine some 350 feet below ground, until they turned off the pumps. Crystal clear water; no fishies or anything else swimming around--just divers. Some areas have overhead lighting; this could be a night dive at noon if you turned off the lights. Cold water, constant 58 degrees Fahrenheit . . . dry suit or 7mm, with gloves and hood (rentals available). Unlike reef diving, divers were allowed--encouraged--to touch things in the water (tools, rocks, ore carts, etc). No muck or silt to stir up. Divers must dive the trails in order (i.e., 1 through 24); your logbook verifies what you have done. I dived trails 1 and 2; other trails promise to be much more interesting. A bit expensive at $65/dive with a 2 dive minimum. Weekends only; popular winter dive site. Guided tours of 10 - 15 divers + guide + safety diver. DiveMaster James M. was a first class guide; very professional. Go to www.2dive.com for more.

UW Photo Comments Cameras welcome for trails 2 - 24, just not on trail #1. The DM explained that he prefered divers pay attention to the site and procedures rather than fumbling with a camera. No specific facilities for UWP.
