Comments One dive operation in South Padre, American Divers. It's owned and operated by a gentleman that has a vast amount of experience in technical diving, and DM also has a vast amount of diving experience. I always felt they could handle any unusual problems that might come up. The ship was awesome! A fully air conditioned cabin that could comfortably seat up to 20ish, or you could sit up front and enjoy being outside. We dove the Texas Clipper on all three dives. This is an immense boat that was sunk less than a year ago, and landed on its side (please read history of ship by "googling"). Took about 45 minutes to get to the dive site. Dive begins at 60 feet, with a thermocline at about 45 feet. My 5 mil kept me warm enough. The uppermost side is covered with various coral that's about 3 inches tall, hundreds of blennies, arrowhead crabs, lots of schooling fish, saw 2 sharks, octopus in every discharge hole...it was a very healthy environment. No other dive operations in area, so ours was the only boat. We wanted to dive a rig, but the rig was undergoing repairs so we couldn't hook up. I would go back in a few years to see the changes in growth that I expect will happen. The dive operation is very good and they were incredibly accommodating for us. South Padre is a great place to go for beach time, and getting in some diving made the trip perfect.
