Comments This was our second visit to Salt Cay (first: April, 2000, same dive operator and resort). Things have grown a bit(Salt Cay Divers has added a 24ft dive boat, Island Thyme Bistro, a rental villa with a fresh water pool, etc), but Salt Cay is still relaxing and uncrowded (the quickest way to the dive sites are the smaller Carolina Skiffs, land transportation is usually by bicycle or golf cart, and there are still only about 100 people on the island including divers/vacationers). We enjoy the "non-pressured" diving with Ollie and Mike (divemasters) - excellent wall dives within 10-15 minutes, coming back to shore between dives and being able to dive your own profile with your buddy. In addition to the nurse sharks, the manta ray, the dolphins and the whales - we also saw a spotted eagle ray, an octopus and a green morray. Our 11 year old daughter completed her open water certification with Mike and really enjoyed herself. We also went to the Endymion, a British Man 'O War which sank about 1780 on a reef in 35ft of water some 16 miles south of Salt Cay. The keel, large cannons and large anchors/chains make for an excellent historic wreck dive - although the weather has to cooperate or the seas can be rough. After diving, there are great beaches (North beach by bicycle and Great Sand Cay by boat). Debbie assisted us with much of the logistics - from inter-island air travel to stocking the frig in our unit at the Tradewinds to open water certification (she and Mike are PADI instructors). We ate dinners out at Island Thyme(a large selection with great food/drinks), Maria's(Mount Pleasant) or Pat's Place (the latter two with good island specialties).
