Comments Been to Provo but, until now, not Grand Turk. It's a very small island with about 1,500 households. Few accommodations, absolutely nothing to do topside, other than enjoy the company of your fellow divers. Yes, there is a cruise ship port, and you could go to Margaritaville, but why would you?

I'll say right off the bat that we were there during the off-season. Temps were around 90 degrees and very humid, some restaurants and accommodations were closed, and there were very few divers. I think we saw just two cruise ship passengers.

We stayed at Manta House, providing perfect diver accommodations. Clean and comfy, but very spotty Internet. Just a few steps away are several dive shops, including Oasis. Just across the street is the Sand Bar, overlooking the beautiful green/blue water. I don't recommend the food, but drinks are fine and the ambiance is good.

Oasis was fine; we were the only two divers on the boat, led by Craig. He was satisfactory, but I was a bit concerned that he didn't pay much attention under water to either of us. A couple of times, I had to fin wayyyy over to him, get his attention, and ask which way to go. Maybe we seemed like capable divers (and we are!), but that's why we pay divemasters, right? To pay attention and make sure we're OK -- throughout the dive.

Diving in Grand Turk is via boat, pickup is on the beach, and the boats anchor once they arrive at the dive site. The reef is in good shape. Not a hell of a lot of critters, but enough for interest. One lionfish spotted (and killed). We're thinking about returning for the whale migration next spring.
