Comments This was our fourth trip to Grand Turk, and second stay at the Island House. The accomodations included a full kitchen, which was useful since the dining options on the island are somewhat limited and pricey- although generally very good. The room came with a pickup (and bicycles) which made getting around very easy. The proprietor (Colin Brooker) could not have been more gracious and helpful. The place has a nice pool and a great view, although it is not on the water. Air conditioniong was marginal, but the breeze and plenty of fans keep things cool.

Oasis Divers is the best operator we have found in the Carribean- we never had to handle our gear after the first trip- it was rinsed and stored each night and put back on the boat in the morning. We never had more than four divers on the boat, although we have had six on previous trips. All the surface intervals were on shore since none of the dive sites are more than a ten minute boat ride. The divemasters are all very professional and provide excellent briefings. They were as much involved in the dive as requested, but otherwise just stayed along and let us do our thing. They were extremely attentive to a couple of inexperienced divers doing their first ocean dives, and made them feel very comfortable in the ocean environment.

The reefs are in great condition and the fish life is abundant. Water clarity was good, and except for a light chop on several days could not have been more enjoyable. We saw most everything we wanted to see including numerous nurse sharks, turtles and rays. The macro critters are abundant, as are the eels, lobsters and crabs.

We also made a trip to Salt Cay, although the diving was not as varied as on Grand Turk. I would not want to spend a week of diving there but for a few days there is a lot to see. Do not miss the chance to visit Porter at the Island Thyme House (bar & restaurant) and ask him about "going to the zoo" (You get to keep the shot glass if you sample the requisite number of "animals"). Just don't do it before you dive.

The cruise ships will begin docking in March of 2006, but most of the activities will be confined to the south end of the island. Hopefully, the quiet ambiance of Grand Turk will not be affected.
