Comments We give high marks to our vacation/dive experience at Bohio and will return. The food was really outstanding, and we appreciated the wide menu options for dinners, from appetizers, salads, and many entrée selections. Lots of conch on the menu, seafood platters, fresh fish, and plenty of choices for the red meat-eaters out there.

Bar service was good. I think I had the best Mojito ever here. Beer, wine and even French champagne are available. It is a beautiful bar setting on the beach, with music Fridays through Sundays in the evenings. We ate outside every night with wondrous sunsets over the ocean.

We had a quiet visit since the resort wasn’t full, and the cruise center on the island was closed temporarily so no “cruiser-partiers” were in evidence. Most visitors were from Canada… and we wondered why there weren’t more Americans or Europeans that we’ve encountered at other dive sites in the Caribbean.

Diving was concierge style: we never touched our equipment after delivering it to the divemaster. All equipment was loaded and unloaded from the boat for you, and no more than eight divers per boat. A few times we had only four. We entered the water by twos, as Andrew the Dive master assisted us into our BC’s prior to backward entry. We removed our BC’s prior to entry back to the boat which made it easy to step up the boat ladder.

Most dives lasted 50 to 60 minutes. Typical profile was initial deep dive along the wall at 65 to 90 feet, then returning over the reef at 25 to 40 feet. You follow the divemaster, but can vary your depth as you see fit. He did chide a couple of people for going too deep once. Nitrox was temporarily unavailable during our trip but will be available soon. I was cold after 45 to 50 minutes anyway, and wore a 4-3 suit. Water temp was 75 to 77 during our visit, a bit colder than I’d anticipated. Visibility varied from 50 to 100 feet.

We returned to shore between dives, since the sites are all within five to ten minutes from the resort. It gave us a chance to warm up before the next dive.

Sightings: lots of turtles, nurse sharks, rays, lobster, eels, and friendly groupers. There were plenty of typical colorful Caribbean fish, and relatively healthy corals with a lot of black coral. I missed the spotted drum but both adult and juveniles were spotted by others. Our last day we saw a whale breaching near our dive site and spent about ½ hour following it, watching it swim… and we jumped into the water with masks and snorkels to watch it underwater. A real treat!

Rooms were adequate, certainly not elegant but clean and serviceable, with everything you need. Bathrooms are small and older but they work. We had a suite with a small kitchen and a nice veranda. We bought coffee, beer, wine and snacks at the local market for use in our room.

Breakfast and lunch are included in the room charge, but drinks and dinner are all at additional charge. Our bill was very reasonable especially considering for the quality of both. We went out to dinner one night into “town” at another hotel restaurant and although the food was fine, we found the Bohio to be superior. In fact most evenings we had both visitors and locals from around the island join us at the Bohio for dinner.

There is not much to see above water on this eight mile long island other than great beaches. We rented a golf cart one afternoon to tool around and toured virtually the entire island in a few hours, but were prohibited from entering the cruise center since it was closed. Everyone we encountered was friendly and we felt very safe on the island and in the resort.
The only drawback of the trip was travel time-- which involved 3 flights from the west coast: one to Miami, 2nd to Provo, and 3rd to Grand Turk. Identical to timing of travel to Caymans or almost anywhere in the mid or eastern Caribbean. Whatever you do don’t travel on a Saturday around Easter, since the airport at Provo was a literal nightmare. We waited in line for over an hour to go through security and stood like sardines in the waiting room where you could not hear information about flights over the noise.
