Comments My dive buddy and I needed to blow bubbles so we chose to go to Grand Turk for a week of diving. Getting there from the west coast was a two day event with an overnight in Miami, but the flights were easy along the way. We stayed at one of the island hotels, Osprey Beach, which is across the street from Bluewater divers, so very convenient. Bluewater is a small shop, limited in what they sell, only t shirts and a few other items, as their focus is on diving.
Dive days we meet at the shop, walked to the beach and were assisted into the boat at the shore. Travel time to the dive sites was 5 to 10 minutes at best. Two tank dives each morning. The west side of Grand Turk sits just off a very deep (7000) drop off The Grand Turk Wall which is the deepest part of the West Caicos Walls. The top reef sits at 30-40 feet then wall diving is just off the edge. So every dive was a great combo of both. Lots of healthy Caribbean coral, and plenty of baby fish seems to indicate the reef is healthy. The island divers have been hunting the lion fish and we only saw one very small on in the entire week. In addition they are on top of the Stony Coral issue and trying to keep their coral healthy as well. Whale song could be heard underwater, as well as dolphin s chattering, and sightings were common, as it was migration season.. once just of the stern of our boat!
Bluewater divers is safety conscience, they have two boats , one is a six-pack, while the second holds 8-10, both of which are well maintained. Dive guides are all dive masters or instructors and are pleasant and attentive. The dive profiles were deep in the beginning along the wall ending on top under the boat. The only frustrating part is that our safety stops were mid water and that , of course, is frustrating when you can look down and see things just below you that you can't get close to.
Grand Turk is out of the way, not the "party island" that the Providenciales is, and well worth the hassle of getting there for a lovely quiet get away with some great diving. Just a warning however, The airport in Providenciales is a mad house!
