Comments Aquamarine Dive Shop and the Blue Waters Inn are a great vacation destination, particularly for a group that includes different degrees of interest in diving vs. other activities. Blue Waters Inn has a private cove north of Speyside, which is a small friendly town at the northeast end of Tobago. Everything is local; there is no corporate presence once you drive out of the airport region around Scarborough in the south. The Blue Waters Inn is right on the water, so you sleep to the sound of lapping waves. Aquamarine is immediately adjacent, as is the dock, and is very well managed by owner Alice Darwent. The diving is extremely colorful and easy, with all dive sites about 8 - 10 minutes away around Little Tobago, offshore of Speyside. The dive guides are very competent and attentive, with a good sense of humor. In 10 dives, we repeated only one site, Coral Gardens, which has the world's largest (known) brain coral. The dive sites are notable for the diversity of flora, for example, Japanese Garden has very different coloration and whip coral that look like a bonsai garden. That site also has Kamikaze Cut, where the currents zip through a narrow aperture. Otherwise, the diving is entirely suitable for beginning recreational divers, and enjoyable for more experienced divers. For adventure diving, you would have to make special arrangements to go past the northern tip of the island to dive The Sisters.
Landlife is simple and enterntaining, with a lively bar scene at the Blue Waters, and local restaurants a 15 minute walk into Speyside, especially Jemma's Seafood Kitchen, with outstanding flavors infused into the local rice/chicken/shrimp dishes. The Blue Waters' clientele is about half divers and half birders, because Little Tobago is a world mecca for certain tropical birds, worth a side trip. Another good excursion is north to the end-of-the-world village of Charlotteville, with a nice beach and a few small restaurants. Blue Waters is owned and well-run by a Trinidad family, and it really the only viable dive/lodging facility in the area.
