Comments We were staying on Union Island but weren't planning to dive while there. We found some excellent snorkeling in the Tobago Cays nearby, so we decided while there we should try to get a few dives in if we could. We emailed them (Grenadines Dive is the only Dive Operator on the island) and they said to just stop by and they'd take us diving the next morning. The dive shop is hard to find and down a side street with no sign. We had to get directions from a local. The shop manager was nice and helped us with our paperwork and fitted our gear which was all included in the (very reasonable) price. We had our own Masks, fins, wetsuits, and computers. The BC's and Regs were showing some wear. In the morning we headed over to Mayreau for our dives with just the 2 of us, a divemaster and boat driver. Halfway there they got a call on the cell phone that a 3rd diver showed up! He apparently was told the wrong time to meet and showed up 20 minutes late! We were most of the way across the choppy channel when we got the call, so we continued to the calmer diving area and the 3rd diver took a water taxi over to meet us and tossed over his gear and jumped aboard. Dive briefings were good and we did 2 drift dives with the first to 80' and the second to 50' in good vis. Our dive sites were on nice reefs between Mayreau and the Tobago Cays. The divemaster used a surface marker and we went down and up as a group. The current was mild becoming a bit stronger at the end of the second dive. My regulator free flowed after my backroll on the first dive and I had to climb back on the boat and take off my gear. The boatman quickly fixed it, I geared back up and jumped back in to join the others. Thankfully the current was mild and they were still close by. Coral and sponges were very good and lots of reef fish and dozens of lobsters. There were Nurse Sharks and Green Turtles on both dives plus a huge Spanish mackerel, Barracuda and big schools of Jacks. I was happy with the diving and we saw a lot. Amazingly there were no lionfish on either dive. While the diving was good it's what I'd call "no frills". There's no shade on the boat, so bring a hat and cover-up so you don't fry between dives. I was also surprised during the surface interval to notice that one of the engines on the "twin engine" boat was not there! It was just an empty engine cowling on one of the motors.

UW Photo Comments Basically nothing on boat or dive shop for cameras rigs. I kept mine (housed P&S with a strobe) in my beach bag wrapped in a towel when I wasn't using it. Boatman carefully handed it to me after I was in the water and took it back after dive.
