Comments MARINES INVADE ST. VINCENT... Dave from Memphis and myself both former Marines joined the Old Curmudgeon himself, Bill Tewes, also a former Marine, to search out the famous "Critters". We were not disappointed as Bill put us on crabs (decorator, oscillating, spotted porcelain, pea, etc.) The shrimp included (golden, banded, pederson, and sun anemone) Then we were treated to the NIBs, "not in the book". On one dive site, Bill pointed out 7 different super macro critters that could only be seen with his sharp eyes and a SubSee adapter hinged in front of a 60mm lens. One day trip took us and out non diving wives to Falls of Baleine. Two tank dives and snorkeling for the girls, stopping at Wallilabou for lunch and adult beverages. This village still has most of the props from the filming of "Pirates of the Caribbean" The food was local in large quantities and very delicious. All in all the is Critter Diving at it's best in the Caribbean.

We stayed at the Mariner Hotel which was clean, comfortable, and right on the water. Their restaurant is one of the best on the island. The accommodation at Young's Island resort, a short ferry ride across from us is pricey, but you can visit and eat at their great restaurant without being a guest. There are a couple local places to eat within walking distance and you should explore them. We never had a bad meal the 2 weeks we were in St. Vincent.

For flower enthusiasts, make sure you take in the Montreal Gardens in the mountains, not to be confused with the Botanical Gardens in the Melrose District near Kingstown. It is about a 45 minute drive up the mountain thru all the small villages. You can combine it with a tour of other sites in about four hours. Most taxi services are $30 per hour.
