Comments This was our 6th visit to St. Vincent staying at Young Island and diving with Dive St. Vincent every time. You just cannot beat the relaxed diving pace - out of 18 dives, only 2 were under an hour and that's because it was the first day back in the water! We love the critters and unusual species you see nowhere else. Please read my previous review from 11/2014. All info still holds true. This year, the island experienced tremendous rainfall right before we arrived and the vis was not as stunning as in other years, but once you are down, there are always exciting things to see like a rare Flame Back Cherub on our last dive, numerous dives with large squads of curious and approachable squid, and the real stunner was a very close encounter with a 9ft nurse shark. Our dive masters tell us it has been @ 13 years since anyone saw one like that! More good news, beginning in January 2017, St. Vincent is outlawing catching or killing or disturbing the nests of sea turtles, so hopefully their numbers will increase in the coming years. Don and Calli both continue to have amazing eyes for spotting even the tiniest nudibranchs and appreciate the needs and pace of photographers. Also can't say enough about the gracious hospitality of Young Island - the staff welcomed us back like family and now even ask to see our dive photos each day! Delicious food as usual. Exciting JetBlue news for Northeast travelers is the NEW nonstop Newark to Barbados flight which just started Nov. 19. On Saturdays it is nonstop, other days of the week it routes through Ft. Lauderdale. SVG Air also continues to be the way to go from Barbados to St. Vincent. Do yourself a favor and enjoy a trip to St. Vincent!
