Comments Anse Chastenet is the most luxurious resort we have encountered, way more than we needed. That said, it was a wonderful experience, excellent food, great service, and a physical layout second to none, and the workout we got climbing the 116 stone steps from the beach to the lobby, and then an equivalent uphill hike to our room, kept us from gaining weight from the great cuisine.

Scuba St. Lucia went out of their way to accomodate our 8-person group. We had our own (private) boat, divemaster, and two-man boat crew for the whole week. My wife's bag was delayed for a day on arrival (AMR left it in Miami), leaving her with nothing but a mask and computer for day 1. Scuba St Lucia provided her with a complete kit until her hers arrived the next day, at no charge. Nitrox charge was US$70 per pax for the week.

I had no idea that I would ever see corals and sponges this big, or reefs this lush, in the Caribbean. Places like the Caymans and Bonaire pale by comparison. Virtually every dive site had incredible quantities of huge barrel sponges, large numbers of black coral trees, vase sponges larger and bluer than we have seen before, and we had to keep reminding ourselves that we were not somewhere in the Asia-Pacific, other than noting that here, the spiral anemones were full of many varieties of shrimp, rather than anemonefish!

My skepticism was put to rest on the first day, and the rest of the dive sites kept getting better and better. Reefs look absolutely untouched, so much so that I am somewhat reluctant to publish this report, for fear of increasing the diver load on these spectacular reefs. The fish life is not as prolific as Malaysia/Indonesia, but lots of critters are there to reward sharp eyes.
