Comments If you are looking for good, laid back diving, this is a great place. The reefs are healthy, the boat rides are mostly short (10-15 minutes), the staff is accommodating, the island is very beautiful, the people are friendly and it's safe(no crime). If you are not diving however, there is not too much here. There is a volcano to climb and an old fort to explore but no beaches to speak of, not much shopping, limited places to eat. For me the diving is the reason to be here and after several trips, I continue to find it very enjoyable. The coral is healthy, the fish abundant with a good variety, there are wrecks, both modern and hundreds of years old, and the staff wants to make things work. There are lobster, eels, rays, turtles on most every dive with an occasional shark (nurse and reef). The "signature" fish is the Flying Gurnard which I see on just about every trip. I stay at the Old Gin House which is close to the diving and the best hotel on the island. The rooms are clean and air conditioned but most are basic with a washroom, bed, TV, and a cabinet for gear and clothes. There are a few waterfront rooms with a view of the ocean.
If you would rather see name's like Frankie's or Cool Corner instead of McDonald's or Starbucks, this might be the place for you.
