Comments The owners, Glenn and Michelle, were most pleasant, flexible and accomodating. I was the only diver on all but 2 of my 10 dive package. Their attitude along with dm Matt led to really laid back and enjoyable diving for the week. Although they had taken their boats out of the water for a tropical storm, they got their rubber dingy back in on the first day so that I wouldn't miss any diving. By the 2nd day they had their Stumpy, their comfortable and reliable dive boat back in the water. The dive sites were all within 5-15 minutes from the dock and the dock was only a 5-7 minute walk from the Gin House. There was a nice varity of most smaller tropicals and the coral was healthy on all but one site. There were large fans, plums and baskets on many sites. Diving was mostly above 80 ft. but the best diving was around 50-60 ft. The water was so warm that I dove only with a swim suit except for the first dive. There were several old wrecks and one recent one, The Charles Brown, in which Glenn helped head up the logistics for sinking. Although Statia would not be considered high adventure diving, this was very decent diving and Statia was very laid back and low key just the way that we prefer. No cruise ships nor drug gangs here to spoil life for the 3000 or so residents or visitors. Several good places to dine and not too expensive considering the island location. We may have had the best room on the island with the ocean front suite at Gin House. It was right on the water with a nice view. Save for the late evening meet and greet from the medical school kids with a dj at the bar next door, it was a nice and quiet place. A full breakfast was included in our package and the Golden Era next door had very good lunch and dinner although the little hotel was a bit long in the tooth. Could use a good sprucing up. Good hiking for those who like it. Folks here are tuned in to environmental protection.
