Comments The island is unlike any other Caribbean island (and I've been to many). There is no overt poverty. The island is very clean. All the food is higher end (and a bit pricey). This is all because it is still Dutch and not a former Dutch island or a commonwealth. There is a social safety net. The island has little to do except eat, sleep, dive and hike in the rainforest. The hikes are wonderful you just can't go to the top of Mount Scenery at 3200 ft on the day of the dive without risking DCS but the other hikes are permitted. All the food was very good and I can't say I had a favorite. We stayed in a cottage at Juliana's that didn't have air conditioning. The first night was rough, we borrowed another fan but as the week wore on, I acclimated and it wasn't bad. Our Lily Pond cottage was adorable. Beautiful wild (perhaps even a bit unkept) was a joy to look at and we even had a resident humming bird. Be prepared for some steep walks if you wish to go about town.
The diving was amongst the best I've been to in the Caribbean. There were some lion fish but fewer. There were reef and nurse sharks on most dives as well as turtles. The reef was very healthy. The concentration of fish and coral life made me smile. Use Nitrox if you can. The depths are in the sweet spot for it.

I am the author of this review and I apparently I made an oversight. For beginners, I would say this is a 3 star but for advanced divers it should have been 4 (even 4.5). I apologize.
