Comments Have escorted dive trips for over 30 years, and this island was surely worth a repeat trip. People are of dutch decent, and are, overall very friendly and helpful. The island is beautiful in the same way that the Grand Canyon is beautiful. You have a sense of awe as to how they ever got building materials to the top to even begin building a settlement--it took 20 years to build the road system and once you drive it it's no wonder why. The views are spectacular, so it's a joy just riding from the hotel to the dive boat. They also have some of the best restaurants in the entire Caribbean-especially for being such a small island.
If there is any crime, it's not immediately evident, and we all felt safe walking the streets at any time day or night. Diving was very good by Caribbean standards and the dive guides were helpful and friendly, as was the dive shop there was no militaristic attitude on the part of the dive masters. No large animals (the largest thing we saw was a sleeping Nurse Shark), but lots of tropical fish and healthy coral. Plenty of subjects to photograph.
Regrettably we were unable to dive the pinnacles that Saba is so famous for, but other than that the trip was a big hit with all 12 in my group-even the non-divers enjoyed it. Don't go if you have to have a white sand beach or shore diving, but otherwise it's one of the best kept secrets in the Caribbean and the flights are actually on time. Take off and landing on Saba is exhilarating to to say the least- all passengers applauded the pilots each time.
This is a very unique place in the Caribbean and well worth the time and money to get there-good for both beginners and experienced divers.
