Comments We booked our trip through Beth Jansen at www.divesaba.com. Beth arranged air, transportation, dives and rental cottage. Saba has many lovely rental cottages with spectacular views. We chose the "Flamingo" cottage outside of Windwardside in a neighborhood called Booby Hill. The Flamingo was a short walk into town albeit very steep walk in and out of town.
The highlights of Saba are its beauty, friendly people, very little crime, outstanding hiking, terrific resteraunts and un commercialized atmosphere. If you want Star Bucks and night clubs you are on the wrong island.
As for diving we had a bit of bad luck from Mother Nature. There was a huge algea bloom going on so visibility was restricted from 20 to 50 feet. We dove with Sea Saba owned by Lynn and John, they run a top notch operation with attentive staff. Once well away from the commercial harbor the under water world is healty and rich. Variety of fish is abundent, soft corals are numerous and in good shape. Most of our dives were on spur and groove formations with a few boulder fields. On the very last day of our trip the winds calmed enough so we could dive the Pinnacles, this is by far the most intersting and best dive sites, highly recommended.
Top side Saba has some terrific hiking through a variety of terrain and forests, no worries about getting back to your hotel or cottage after hiking, just find one of the many friendly taxi drivers to take you home.
As for food each dining experience was a treat. The resteraunts are small and intimate, do not be surprised if the owner or chef comes to sit at your table and chat for awhile.
At the beginning of each dive day, Lynn would list off the dinner options, make recomendations and book reservations.
Terrific diving, great people, spectacular food...Saba is the un spoiled queen!
