Comments Getting there requires a short but pricey flight from St. Martin and a landing on a very short runway on Saba. The island is basically a mountain with a road carved around the edge. No rental cars are available so you take cabs (which are minivans) everywhere you go. I guess they don't want any tourists driving a car off the edge of a cliff. Lynn at Sea Saba was great. She handled everything for us while we were there. We got picked up at our house every morning and would stop at the dive shop on the way to the harbor. She would ask us where we wanted to eat that night and make reservations for us. On our departure date she arranged for us to spend our downtime between flights in St. Martin at a beach hotel instead of sitting in the airport. We stayed in Iris House, just down the road from the dive shop. It was an old 2 bedroom house with a small private pool and two porches with fantastic views. The house was well equipped and all we needed to do was stop at the grocery store for a few supplies. The dive operation has two 36 foot Newton (or Newton-like) boats. The longest ride we had to a dive site was about 10 minutes. The coral was very healthy, probably attributed to the fact that they made Saba a marine park just about the same time the first diver hit the water. Visibility was very good. The pinnacles were the best diving but the current had to cooperate in order to dive those. Overall I thought Saba diving was the best I have experienced in the Caribbean. If you decide to go I would recommend contacting Beth at Dive Saba Travel and let her make the arrangements.
