Comments I spent 4 nights and days at the Hyatt Sharm el Sheikh, with my son. He spent two days certifying (PADI AoW; Nitrox and Peak Performance Bouyancy)and we spent the first day diving the house reef and 3 days on day boats out of Nama Bay (one day at Ras Mohammed, including dives at Shark Observatory and Shark/Yolanda reefs and one day in the Straits of Tiran, including dives on both Woodhouse and Gordon reefs).
The dive shop at the Hyatt is a satellite of the main Red Sea College operation in Nama Bay.
The hotel itself is 4/5 star and very comfortable, with a choice of restaurants. The Red Sea College Hyatt dive centre was friendly and efficient. My son was well treated during his certification process and dives and enjoyed the experience.
The day boats run efficiently. You get picked up at your hotel around 8am and taken to the main jetty at Nama Bay. It's a bit of a crowd there, but generally you get taken onto your boat reasonably swiftly and efficiently. The form is normally two morning dives and an optional (for an extra Euros22) third afternoon dive. Following the revolution in Egypt, there were noticeably fewer people in the hotel and on the day boats. We normally dived in a group of 6 which was fine. All dives were from and to the boat, some times they were drifts with the boat following and picking us up. The dive sites are really good a combination of wall drift dives and coral gardens. The corals are in good shape, particularly in Ras Mohammed National Park. We saw schools of snapper, tuna, batfish, jacks as well as loads of the usual Red Sea benthic species. We saw a turtle and the highlight of the dives was a sighting of a bumphead parrotfish. Our guide told us he has been diving in the Red Sea for 10 years and that's the first one he's seen! There was talk of manatas but we never saw any. Frankly, if you are looking for big pelagic action you'd best look elsewhere. However, if you are looking for world class diving at pretty reasonable prices, this is a good option.
