Comments This destination had been on the list for a while. I gathered 7 friends (one eventually had work issues and didn't go). We spent 3 days in Cairo (which was a must and I would return) before boarding the boat in Hurghada, a short flight from Cairo on Saturday afternoon. We were greeted at the dock and luggage whisked away to our cabins. Check in was very easy, although it is the first time I have been asked to complete a health questionnaire. It was very windy. We travelled to the first site on Sunday morning and followed the dive leader, Zoe. We were offered the opportunity to dive on our own or take a guide and as it was our first time, we took the guide. Salinity is 47% so extra weights were required. Four dives a day were listed (our group left on Friday afternoon so the last two dives on Friday were out for us). Three dives on the SS Thistlegorm towards the end of the week - so if one didn't like wrecks, it might have been a problem.
Currents were stronger than I liked on some dives. There were many other boats around of which the large percentage were probably day boats from Sharm-El-Sheik. Viz was less than perfect due to some high winds and currents. Only one out of 20 earned the iron diver certificate, a young lady earned her advanced certificate and another Nitrox. All the staff were amazing, although the videographer wasn't the best leader (IMHO). I believe he was there on a trial basis. Aggressor's policy is to have a female on board all their vessels, and Zoe did a great job with administration and dive leadership. Her husband, Adel, was also a very strong leader and gave excellent briefings. Cabins? All ensuite. The boat itself was very spacious, plenty of room on the dive deck, two camera tables and wet suits rinsed with a chemical and hung up after every dive. We did not see too much in the way of large pelagics, those are further south. Dolphins located for the final dive were a fitting ending to a great week.
