Comments The most important information: IS IT SAFE TO GO TO EGYPT? We went with a group of 15, and toured Luxor and Cairo before diving. The tourist areas were UNCROWDED. We had ready access to the major displays. HOWEVER, we always had an armed guard with us, and a police escort to/from the airport. The current rule in Egypt is: THERE ARE NO RULES. The place is as close to anarchy as I can imagine. Poverty is horrendous. Petty crime unpunished. This is a great time to go, WITH A GROUP!
Fly and Sea Tour of Vancouver, B.C. were the wholesalers of this trip, and I would NOT recommend them. Communication was poor, and they offered no refund if our trip had to be cancelled because of civil unrest. Furthermore, trip insurance doesn't cover trip cancellation for civil unrest!
It is possible to fly directly to Sharm or Hargada from Europe, bypassing the hazards of Cairo.
Now the diving: our itinerary was "The Best of the Best". In the middle of the Red Sea be prepared for rough seas and strong currents. Diving is done from dingys, and getting into the pitching dingys in full gear was a challenge. Indeed, three of our party stepped off the mother ship, into the dingy and directly into the ocean! All to see the big boys: hammerhead sharks, etc. We saw two or three. The diving right off the coast was excellent with no currents, excellent viz., and lots of stuff to see.
The Red Sea is a popular European dive destination, so there are a LOT of divers in the Red Sea. Yet the reefs are in excellent condition.
In my opinion the food and accommodations were average for liveaboards. The dive staff were superb.

UW Photo Comments We were with a group of 15 u/w photographers, and the boat was woefully inadequate for this many photographers. Camera charging stations are limited to about 8. Rinse tank is SMALL.
