Comments The King Snefro fleet offer 3 night, 3 day "mini safari" liveaboard trips. These have itneraries out of Sharm el Sheikh and go either to the Straits ot Tiran or Ras Mohammed and on to the Strait of Gubal. My son and I were on a week's trip during which we spent 4 days on shore at a hotel and using day boats while he got various certifications. However, I wanted him to gain a "taster" liveaboard experience and this 3 day trip was perfect for that.
The boat is not new and at around 20m not that big. It takes a maximum of 12 passengers, which must be tight! We had only six people on board (two of whom were non divers) and my son and I had a cabin each. The cabins were typically a bit cramped but did have ensuite facilities. They had air con. The eating area was small for 12 but OK for 6 and there was a dive deck and sun deck upstairs. The food was pretty good throughout the trip. The crew were all Egyptian, including the dive guide. We dived mainly around Ras Mohammed (including Shark/Yolanda reefs) and then we went out for a planned two dive visit to the wreck of the Thistlegorm - one of the world's great wreck dives. The weather was sunny but very windy and sea conditions out to the Thistlegorm were rough. We eventually got there but were limited to one dive on the wreck. All credit to the captain for getting us there! My son was mesmerised by the Thistlegorm. I last dived it almost 10 years ago and it is showing some signs of deterioration due no doubt to over-diving. However, the guns on the stern section, the tank in the bombed area, the tenders and the trucks, motorcycles and rifles in the holds are magical. It was worth the trip for this dive alone. The rest of the diving was fine but frankly you could have covered most of it in day boats from Sharm.
