Comments This was my third trip to the Red Sea, which is pretty much a "best kept secret" for Americans, who from my experience are afraid to travel to the Middle East. Their loss.
Other than a lack of pelagics, especially sharks--we dived the Hurghada-Sinai region--the diving is excellent. Lots of sea life and some very nice wrecks. The Thistlegorm, of course, is beyond words for a wreck diver. OK, one word: Fabulous. I've dived it nine times.
The Blue Force boat is very nice, well run, and the divemasters and crew are excellent. That said, this experience was no better than the others I've been on in the Red Sea, despite it's "high end" cost. The food was OK, I guess--I couldn't eat much. But NO COFFEE MAKER!!! Just instant Nescafe, which of course, isn't coffee.
We tacked on a week-long cruise up the Nile. A great way to see the incredible historical sites, if you like a cruise ship (I don't), and our Egyptologist was excellent. Going to the Egyptian desert in August, not a good idea, unless you like 114 degree weather and no shade. I lost 15 pounds on an 18-day trip. I don't recommend that as a diet.
The 90s temperature while on the Red Sea is no problem. Air conditioning, shade and you are in the water a lot compensate for the heat.

Reporter and Travel

Dive Experience Over 1000 dives
Where else diving Primarily Lake Erie and the Great Lakes, but all over, from Truk to Galapagos, the Red Sea to Cocos Island, the Philippines, Persian Gulf to the Florida Keys.
Closest Airport Hurghada Getting There Almost everyone on the trip had their flights cancelled at least once. Do NOT use Turkish Airlines. It is virtually unreachable if you have a problem. Other travelers told me the same thing.

Dive Conditions

Weather sunny, dry Seas calm
Water Temp 82-84°F / 28-29°C Wetsuit Thickness 3

UW Photo Comments Lots of light in the daytime, and in shallower dives available light pictures are fine. The divemasters keep the customers off the reefs, so they are in excellent condition. The night dives are outstanding, especially inside the Thistlegorm--great photo ops of WWII equipment, from rifles and motorcycles to vehicles and, outside the wreck, a train.
