Comments We went to Malapascua to see the famous Thresher Sharks and we were not dissapointed. Trip takes 3 hours by road from Cebu and another 30 minutes by boat. Hotel is nice and cozy with a beautiful beach. We arrived in the afternoon, had a chance to rest and sleep and left at 5 am to dive at Monad Shoal. They told us these sharks are very sensitive to strong lights and that's the reason for diving so early. We did 2 dives in 2 days and encountered the Threshers (3 on each dive) at 60 ft with very good visibility. Some others went to 90 ft and had very murky water so all they saw was shadows. The sharks are curious and if you swim or stay at places with good visibility, they'll eventually come to you. With over 500 shark dives under my belt, I considered my self lucky to be able to encounter this elegant looking creature. On the 1st day after breakfast and a rest, we went to do 2 dives in Gato Island, where we encountered all kinds of things, like Whitetip Reef Sharks, Cuttlefishes, Orang Utan Crabs and 2 gorgeous White and Yellow Ghost Pipefishes.
On both nights our group of 16 divers had dinner served at long tables in the beach.
Great place and Sven and Ollie are wonderful hosts.
