Comments A 16 hour flight from LAX to Cebu with an hour or so lay0ver in Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific. Interestingly the seats on the plane in economy did not recline. They were tilted back a bit so were not horribly uncomfortable. Next year they will go back to reclinable seats. I stayed one night in a hotel in Cebu and was picked up the next day by the boat staff for the 15 minute ride to the boat. We were doing a possible 34 dives over the next 9 days in the Southern Visayas. The boat is a wooden sloop with sails though it runs by motor. My room was nice - large with 3 beds and small bathroom with hot water for showers. There was a computer for picture downloads in every room. Staff of 13 was excellent - for the 13 divers aboard. Food was good with a choice of 2 entrees and other dishes served buffet style. Soup every night for first course and dessert only with dinner. Cold food at 6:30am, with full breakfast after the 7am dive. Lunch after the second dive, snack after the third. Night dive for 45 minutes or more before dinner. Dive briefings were thorough and DMs very good pointing out the small critters. Most dives were 60-75 minutes from two pangas with one returning to the boat for a third group of divers. We were picked up very quickly at the end of the dives. With a category 5 typhoon north of us we were unable to do the scheduled mandarin dive. However, in its place we snorkeled with 7-10 juvenile whale sharks on another island. Several people opted to dive with them. We saw lots of critters - many types of scorpionfish, giant and small frogfish, sea moths, comet fish, many nudibranches, eels, humphead wrasse, mnay types of puffer, many schools of fish, etc. A very good trip.
