Comments This was the second half of our trip - first week spent at Atlantis Puerto Galera. This was very different! The resort was just as nice - very comfortable and easy to use, good food, friendly staff, etc.

Most of the diving was very close to the resort - just a few minutes by boat. This was muck diving - what coral there was was in very poor shape, though the artificial reefs had some coral on them. But the beauty here was in the small and weird - and there was many, many interesting species - spiny devil fish, fingered dragonet, frog fish, pipefish, nudibranchs of all sorts.

The divemasters' skill varied - from one who just was "there" to a marine biologist who had so much interesting information and helped teach us how to spot things ourselves. Everyone had a slate (as with Puerto Galera, too) and a pointer to help us see and identify things.

The house reef was great - it started with brown volcanic sand bottom, then some tires that had lots of cool critters, then into sea grass where all the fish and critters were green. Around the tires there were, a couple times, huge schools of fusiliers, snappers, etc - mesmerizing.

We took two trips to Apo Island. Some of the dive sites there were amazing, but some were only so-so. Definitely worth the trip, though one day would have been enough for us. Watch out for the Titan triggerfish during their nesting season.

This is a great place for the weird, the camouflaged, the funny-shaped and hard-to-spot fish and other critters.
