Comments Traveled from New Jersey to Atlantis resort in Dumaguette (17 hours) on Korean Air and Cebu Pacific. Korean Air permits you two 70-lb bags for checked luggage. However, Cebu Pacific maximum weight allowance is 44 LBS. There is a charge on this airline for checked luggage in excess of this weight. Cost me $15 extra. I understand Air Philippines gives more liberal allowances for checked luggage to scuba divers. On my return trip on Air Philippines, I was not charged for excess baggage weight. Scuba Travel Ventures, San Diego handled all the travel arrangements. I heard about them at Beneath the Sea 2008. They are reputable dive travel agency and Patchara did an excellent job in making travel arrangements.
I used EAN-32 on all my dives. Atlantis offers an unlimited Nitrox package at a cost of $165. I purchased the seven-day dive package, which included two days of diving at APO island. The package includes four boat dives per day, except when you went to APO (3 dives per day.) The resort serves three meals per day and snacks between dives. The food was excellent. The best diving is at APO island, a 45-minute boat ride from the resort. The coral formations at APO are beatiful. Dive guides are very helpful in assisting you with your equipment. Most dives start as muck dives. Divemasters look for all sorts of small critters in the sand. The town pier is a very nice dive site. You cannot wear gloves while diving.
You must make a short slosh through the water to enter the dive boat and then climb up a boat ladder. The resort should have
a dock so that you would not have to enter the boat from the water. Although this area has no high voltage diving, I enjoyed staying and diving at Atlantis.
