Comments The quantity and diversity of the fish on all the sites just blew us away. We had just come from the Solomon Islands and thought the diving there was great, but this was even a notch better!

From the efficient pick up at the airport, transport by tinnie to the island, to easy check-in and orientation on the island - everything was so smooth the entire week we were there. For most of the week, we were the only ones diving, so we left when we wanted, and dove the sites they recommended (or by the end of the week, the ones we preferred). Dive sites were at least 20 minutes away, so the two morning dives were separated by an hour interval on the boat or on a white sand beach, having hot tea or cold water, as well as plenty of fresh fruit and cookies.

The dive shop is big and open, with plenty of room for you to hang gear to dry overnight. The crew always had all your gear out and set up on the boat every morning. We mostly dove from the "little" boat, but the one day on the "big" boat was nice, with lots of room and even a fresh water bucket for my camera.

The entire resort was very clean, and the room was huge - with plenty of storage cubbies and space, as well as a good amount of shelves in the bathroom (one of my pet peeves - NOT a problem here). Even though they had hot water, we always took cold water showers after a warm day spent in the sun, except for the morning we left early for our flight, and the warm shower then was quite welcome. The clotheslines on the deck outside the room were great for drying towels and swimsuits. Once you take off your shoes when you arrive, you never put them on again until you have to (regretfully) leave. The sand on the walkways and beach is soft, fine and very white. The WiFi worked sporadically in our room, but it was best in the dining lounge, albeit slow. There was a large desk in our room that was good for downloading each day's pictures for culling and editing. The ceiling fan provided good air movement, and the screens kept the bugs out well.

The food was really good and varied, and you could have seconds just by asking. At breakfast every morning, you marked your choices for lunch and dinner - usually between a fish or chicken dish. Since there were only 4 of us most of the week, they set up our dining on the table near the beach to take advantage of the cooling breezes. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. There was always cold water available in the cooler, as well as beer, wine or soda (you kept your own tally on the honor system board).

Dietmar is a gracious and friendly host. It was always fun to share stories at dinner with him and other guests. We hardly ever return to places we've visited, because the world is just too big, but Lissenung is on the very short list for us to do so. I'm SO glad we found this resort by reading reviews here.

What airline route can we take from the USA to get there?

Renee, your best bet is to contact Dietmar. He's well traveled and can give you good advice. We were already in the South Pacific on an extended trip, so we just made our way to Port Moresby from the Solomons. My guess for you might be LAX or SFO to Sydney then PNG.

Nice report! What was the overall cost of your stay there, accommodations, meals and diving? THX

We paid about $3800 for two us to stay 8 nights (meals included), 6 days of 2 tank dives (plus one extra afternoon dive for my husband), roundtrip boat transfer to airport, recompression chamber fees, and tips.
