Comments Paradis Diving is set within the resort of the same name in SW of Mauritius. It is an upmarket resort with great golf course, tennis, spa etc. Food reasonably good and service also. Not cheap.
The dive operation is in the resort. Friendly, helpful staff. They run two one tank dives each day - at 8.30am for advanced divers. This is normally a reasonably square-profile dive to around 25 - 30m. Mostly these are reefs and small drop offs in the 15 to 40 m range. There is one nice upright purpose-sunk wreck in the 30 to 20m range.
Most dives are relatively short because of the average depth/square profile. There are two stand out sites Lion Fish Reef (a tiny piece of reef at around 22m, with more Lion Fish per square meter than I've ever seen and some great critters, including leaf fish) and Pass St Jacques (a ripping drift dive out through the pass which is highly weather dependant but great fun - we saw eagle rays and glimpsed a bull shark!.
There is a 10.30 one-tank dive aimed at open water divers and beginners. These are shallower reef dives wich are pleasant. We encountered a large dolphin on one dive.
I dived in groups of 1 (me) to 4 plus a divemaster.
They run a two-tank morning dive trip roughly once a week for advanced divers, depending on demand. Sometimes a 1.30 one tank dive is scheduled.
The dive centre equipment is fine. 12 litre steel tanks are used, which takes some weight off the belt. I dived in 2.5mm shortie and vest in 25 degree C water. I was fine but everybody else used 5mm full suits, some with hoods.
It's a long way to travel but id you are combining diving with a family holiday it's a decent alternative to the Seychelles and has more vaiety of non-diving pursuits than the Maldives (although diving is better in the Maldives)
