Comments The Cortez Club has a number of boats, but the ones we saw seem quite small. The boat rides to the better dive sites are one and one-half to two hours each way. There are no heads on the boats. Nitrox is available, but it is an additional cost, as is lunch and the marine park entrance fee. The diving is quite expensive, but, considering the distances involved, the charges may not be all that exorbiant. The crew also found a whale shark for us to snorkle with at no extra cost. There was an opportunity to dive with sea lions, and we saw a couple of sharks in the distance at El Bajo. El Bajo was quite crowded, with one live-aboard and several other day boats all trying to anchor on the pinnacle. The diving is fairly typical of Baja diving, with a few sea fans and the occasional coral head, but with some impressive schools of fish. We did feel that the diving was better (and less expensive) in Cabo Pulmo.

The hotel was clean, but well worn, almost to the point of being run down. Bathroom fixtures were corroded, and the draperies had holes in them. I had to request bottled water each day we were there, and it took them over a day to replace burnt out light bulbs. I understand that the condominiums are newer and in better shape, but we did not have the opportunity to confirm that.

UW Photo Comments No rinse tanks on boats for cameras. No safe storage for cameras. We had to hold our cameras in our laps the whole boat ride. The crew was careful in handling the cameras, and they did provide a cooler filled with water at the dive shop for rinsing the cameras.
