Comments My 11th Nautilus trip and everything about the boat was exceptional. I booked a single cabin on the lower deck and had plenty of room. Private bathroom, individual climate control, comfortable bed. Entire crew fantastic as always. They go out of their way to make sure everybody is taken care of, has a good time, and has quality encounters. There are 3 submersible cages (to 30 feet) that each accommodate 3 divers and a DM. There are 2 larger surface cages that accommodate 5 or 6 people at a time. Everyone has at least 3 submersible cage experiences scheduled /day but it is not required attendance. If a cage has only 2 divers, you can get in as a 3rd. I actually found that on calm wind days, the surface cages were preferable- the light was much better for videography, the action was closer, and the water was slightly warmer!
Bags of chum are hung over the side of the boat to attract the big guys. At the surface, 2 crew members (1 port, 1 starboard) do "shark wrangling" where they throw large tuna steaks attached to rope onto the surface. They then try to entice the sharks to get the bait. Watching these 12-15 foot sharks going after the bait makes for some great video and photo encounters. I know it's not natural, but its still hi power electric activity. Even watching the activity from the boat, you get excited and especially when one the whites breeches! This was my 3rd trip to Guadelupe and I will go back again.
