Comments This dive week was a 10. I hired mayo (Ismael Hinojosa) who lives in Cabo as our private guide. He was born in La Paz and knows everything there is to know about the sea of cortez. We rented a van and he drove us the whole way and hired the dive boats in both places and led all dives. We did 4 days of diving in cabo plumo and 2 days in la paz. Did 13 dives

I am a little of a hotel snob and loved the cabo pulmo resort. I rented the air conditioner.

The diving was fabulous. Cabo plum divers was the outfit mayo chose and they have a unique way to get into the water that makes it easy.

The weather shifts in the sea of cortez from hour to hour and we had to call diving one dive. The mexican government made cabo plumo a national park and the sea life is so prevalent you can lose yourself in giant schools of fish. The soft coral is abundant in numbers and species. We saw bull sharks (7 circled us) and the usual suspects of other species. Never saw a lion fish ever. There was so much plankton it slightly limited visibility but the plethora of life was worth it.

Then the 2.5 hour trip to La Paz. We stayed at La Perla which was adequate for our needs. In La Paz you travel an hour by boat to the sea lion colony. With a 225 hp motor is was a smooth trip and worth it. They stopped for lunch and put tables on the beach. Great cliff formations and a blue footed booby and a frigate bird colony that was very interesting. The sea lion colony was really fun

We did two wrecks both at about 50 to 60 feet. One you can swim through.

We had the privilege on the way back of finding and snorkeling with a 30 foot mother and a 18 foot baby whale shark two days in a row. Our boat driver and the other drivers (3 boats) maneuvered around safely.
I highly recommend mayo if you are looking for a solid private guide who will make sure you have a great experience.

He is PADI certified and has a license for the national park
