Comments The town is charming and relaxing. We had a wonderful time in the slow paced environment. There are great restaurants, but we didn't see anything that would classify as a night club. La Mision was a very comfortable place to stay, and a little upscale from the usual dive hotel with marble floors and no accommodations for rinsing a camera housing!

Dolphin Dive was a great dive operator for the location. They had great service and focused on diver safety, comfort, and enjoyment. They take care of all your equipment with thorough rinses and preparation for the next day of diving. Once your equipment is on the boat you never need to touch it again like some of the best liveaboards.

We did book this trip initially though Seattle Scuba School and that turned out to be a bad choice. Their website had the wrong trip schedule originally posted so we need to pay extra for additional time in Loreto to match our airline reservations. Then Seattle scuba bailed out on the trip and we ended up making our first trip to this location alone without support from their trip leaders.

UW Photo Comments We were there during a change in conditions and visibility ranged from 10 - 60 ft. The Sea Lions had were gone to the mating grounds so only a few non-mating males were in residence. The best photo subjects were hoards of Green Morays, sometimes up to 6 in a hole. There was also a huge variety of colorful and unique nudibranchs. It was very hard to guess whether I should use the macro or wide-angle lens. The dive master did a great job of finding photo subjects even in the low vis. There were also lots of opportunities to photograph dolphins and jumping Mobela rays during the surface intervals and trips to and from the island.

The small dive boat has limited space for cameras, and rinse buckets must be requested. The trip to and from the dive sites is about 30 min in very hot weather so some sort of cover to throw over the camera housing is important. There are no protected accommodations to change a lens, battery, or memory card so come prepared for 2 dives of over an hour each.
