Comments I had one day cruise stop in Cabo San Lucas on the Norwegian Star (an excellent cruise line.). Prior Chapbook reports indicated average diving in Cabo, so I was not expecting two excellent dives. I never book a cruise ship dive excursion because they are usually geared to the lowest level diver. I have dived more than 500 dives so I am looking for unique, advanced dives. I booked directly with Dive Cabo, Ivan, at divecabo@hotmail.com . Originally, I inquired through email to about five Cabo 5 Star PADI dive shops. Ivan was the only one who answered all of my questions. And he was very prompt with his responses. The shop is conveniently located only about 5 minutes walk from the cruise ship dock. My only criticism is the directions indicated to look for a mini-golf, which is no longer in business. So Ivan needs to update the directions.

The shop was friendly and even gave me bottled water before the dive. Even though I was the only afternoon diver (there were 8 divers on the morning dive) on the well-equipped 40’ boat everyone was courteous and helpful. I dove with Divemaster, Ricardo. Dive site was only about 5 or 10 minutes from the dock. First tank was about 70’ feet. Coral was limited, visibility about 40’. Ricardo showed me many eels, lobsters, a few rays, starfish. Prior dive saw seahorses, but I did not have the pleasure. Limited coral was evident. The highlight of the dive was a “sand fall” which I had never seen. A sand fall is like a water fall, only instead of water cascading down the slope, sand was in a continuous falling movement starting at about 30’ to 70’ into a narrow stream about the size of my hand. I could put my hand in the moving sand as it dropped off the final narrow ledge into wherever sand falls to. Does it ever run out of sand?

Second dive was memorable because I dove with seals for the first time. We anchored near a seal rookery and had the pleasure of continuous barking during our surface inverval. At about 60’, we watched the seals cavorting gracefully over our heads, just like on TV. Suddenly, Ricardo pointed behind me. As I turned around, I was pleasantly surprised to find a curious seal was within 2 feet of my face staring at me as I stared him back. I was pleasantly surprised at my two dives in Cabo and the gracious care shown me by Ricardo, Ivan and the boat captain. I normally tip the average 10% to 15% but on this $90 dollar dive (with all gear), I gladly gave a $30 tip because this operation was exceptional and the experience unforgettable.
